The New Mexico Shop
Galeria Ortega owners, Andrew Ortega whose family brought weaving to Chimayo in the early 1700’s, and Evita Medina Ortega whose family built the famous Santuario de Chimayo Church in the early 1800’s, opened their shop in 1983 to showcase the unique talents and beauty of New Mexico.

Galeria Ortega specializes in and is proud to present to our customers the best in New Mexican books, music, foods, and original artwork.

We carry hundreds of book titles ranging from children’s books, fiction, Spanish-American culture, Native American culture, cook books and art books. If we don’t already carry a title you are looking for, we have the resources to try to find it for you.

Our music selections include traditional and contemporary Hispanic and Native American, and traditional American Cowboy musicians and the full collection of music by Christian music artist, cousin, Fernando Ortega.

Our foods selections include New Mexico’s Own products such as Red and Green Chile Pistachios, New Mexico Pinon Coffee, Blue Corn Pancake and Muffin mixes, and, of course, a wide range of local Red and Green Chile products, all made or grown in New Mexico.

The original artwork ranges from hand-carved Hopi kachinas and traditional New Mexico Santo wood-carvings, tinwork and straw in-lay. We also carry one-of-a-kind contemporary stoneware pottery which is both functional and decorative, as well as art prints, cards, and posters by local artists.
